Leonard Schrader is a brilliant screenwriter and has a knack for taking foreign language films and putting them in a context that doesn't make them seem alien. Because the American and Asian or Latino relations and cultures understand and respect one another and you get a sense that it has always been this way in reality, but Hollywood does their best to keep people stupid towards this fact. His brother Paul Schrader is a genius in his own right,
both of them show the grittiness and the darkness of American culture so it makes perfect sense one of them would have a Mondo film about this subject. I've been wanting to see the film "The Killing of America" for awhile now ever since I saw it reviewed in the Creations book "Killing for Culture". It comes off like an upscale "Faces of Death" but it still stands alone as a strong argument against gun violence.Michael Moore would later do his own sequel to this film(even though they are both unrelated,the topic is the same).Killers deciding elections and gun violence and terrorists are crawling around in every decade changing history.I often wonder if it'll come back to that again,but I'd like to think people have learned from the past.
