What the fuck?? N-word songs

I totally forgot about this song:
white nigger
lyrics by Penelope Houston/ music by P. Houston, G. Ingraham, D. O'Brien, J. Wilsey

Well, you don't know what you want
working everyday in your restaurant
your life is slipping out of control
lose your job gonna lose you soul

now boy, young and white, so you wanna make it bigger
boy, you better watch your step, white nigger

When you were young you had such big plans
such big ambitions gonna be a good man
I say look at you now, oh what a coward
living your life but you don't know how to live

boy (little boy) young and white, so you try to make it bigger
boy, you just don't understand do you white nigger?

Work like a devil, work like a dog
where does it get you, where do you go oooohhhhh
Work for the money, work for the show
Work for the people that you don't know

I see you driving around in your car
pretend you're not what you really are
just look in the mirror look in your eyes
what you discover will be no surprise
something is missing something's wrong
you got your money but something's gone
something you had right from the start
you should have listened to your heart

Work like a dog, work like a slave,
Work like a devil, and what have you made ohhhhhh no, no, no
Work like a dog, work 9-5
working shaking his hand you're staying alive ohhhhhh no, no where you gonna go
Work work every day
Work your life away and sure it pays
but where does it get you, where are you now
come on white nigger

Coming from such a PC uptight left wing scene like Frisco how did they Avengers not get any shit for this racist bullshit? Maybe they did but I didn't really do any research(why should I?)
But any song with the dread N-word sung by the white devil is almost guaranteed to suck. Then again I really like this cover version so it's a head scratcher.

The Avengers really deserve more shit for this song and last I heard Penelope Huston works at the SF library (where I'd like to work, so maybe there is a slight amount of anger and jealousy on my part, probably). White people writing songs with n-word in the title and singing them, recording it and going so far as to etch it in music history forever is just retarded to me, I don't get it?

And when Patti Smith was yeally it like a crazy old cat lady at the Rocknroll hall of shame induction I thought it was awesome! Rocknroll n--- calling out people in the audience and calling them the racial epithet, so in a context it's kinda funny but still wrong to do in my mind.
I just hate that fucking word, as my friend skunkape said in a text a few weeks ago, when I went on about how Larry Cohen in the commentary for "Bone" wrote a great piece of dialog for Yaphet Kotto about the "nigger mystique"
and how he likes to use it to his advantage. In the film Bone, Yaphet terrorizes a white couple with nothing but the color of his skin, he never brandishes a weapon or kills anyone and they are fearful of the image not the man. Anyway skunky called me prude cause that word makes me uncomfortable and always has. The last example of a song with that title is from the memphis garagesters The Oblivians with N-Rich. It's a horribly offense term and they got no grief over it apparently (check out this interview about the subject).
When I saw The Oblivians recently live they axed that song thank god and played everything else in their catalog.

  1. I hate the N-word too. Its always bothered me, like its the absolute worst thing to say about any person. Its so strange that its become so socially acceptable.
