I'm gonna be busy with summer school pretty soon so this pipedream of becoming a fulltime blogger bullshit is over for awhile.Thank god!The delusions you get when you don't have a job interfering in your brain.Anyway, so I finally listened to the 40 phonecalls on the Barrell "Last House On Dead End Street" Dvd my friend kindly burned for me(it's out of print now). When I heard how ridiculous Mr. Psychotronic made them sound, I didn't even bother checking em out but after having nothing to do I decided to listen. After hearing all of them I think that they give great insight into the process of filmmaking more so than some high budgeted Michael Bay nonsense or even an IFC making of. Because this film is so reviled and misunderstood it's alittle strange but it has such a strong reputation as maybe being an actual snuff film that it's comforting to hear the day to day process of this kind of film.I used to be one of the people who didn't support it's merit as a great horror film basically because I was so freaked out by it! I have gained all this new found respect for "Last House" and I still can't listen to it without the commentary(done by Chas Balun and Roger Watkins). It's too bad I don't have a program to upload all the sound on the phone calls but it's really interesting to hear the whole process of a no budget sleaze bound only for 42 street masterpiece. The only thing I can compare it to for an hour long interview is the wfmu phonecall interview with Daniel Johnston done from a mental institute(which later inspired the documentary).
